RIB Adds New SpecLink Cloud Features to Make Specifications on Drawings Easier

With its latest release of SpecLink Cloud, RIB introduces new formatting and export options to support owners, architects, engineers, and specifiers who need a faster, more reliable way to create “Sheet Specs” – project specifications that are formatted and placed on one or more drawing sheets.

The idea for the new features were generated through user feedback from a SpecLink customer who operates a commercial architecture and spec writing firm and who needed a better way to fulfill client requests for Sheet Specs.

Once the idea was submitted, the RIB product team set out to talk to other firms about their needs surrounding Sheet Specs. They found that once project specifications were developed and approved, it often required a tedious, multi-step process involving several participants to properly format, export, and place the specification content onto drawing sheets. The product team spoke with firms of all types and sizes, and quickly learned that the practice of producing sheet specs is commonly used – particularly on small projects.

The customer feedback resulted in a dedicated Sheet Specs feature set in SpecLink. The new formatting and export options allow users to set page size, number of columns, column width, and includes settings to account for the title block or other pre-set information on drawing sheets. From there, the formatted Sheet Specs output from SpecLink can quickly and easily be imported into design authoring applications, including Autodesk Revit and AutoCAD.
