NCC is one of Denmark’s largest development and contracting companies and a part of the Scandinavian contracting group, NCC, which is listed in Sweden. NCC has had a corporate agreement with RIB since 2007, when RIB’s digital concept was implemented in the organization. NCC utilizes RIB Project to a great extent, for both internal projects and tenders. “At NCC, we see RIB Project as a collaboration platform – a platform through which we can share project information with external collaborators as well as clients, advisors and subcontractors”, explains NCC’s Ivan Maimann.

Short-term and long-term gains

“The reduction in the number of printouts is one of the clearest short-term gains. The long-term goal is to consolidate as much relevant information for a building project as possible in one place. RIB provides customers with enhanced service through comprehensive documentation, which is invaluable in disputes with subcontractors over the validity of project documents at any given time. We have already utilized this feature on several occasions, and the system has proven the value of maintaining control over all project documents. The systematic approach inherent in using RIB Project also simplifies the process for others to take over and access the complete set of project documents,” says Ivan Maimann of NCC.

An hour for registrations that used to take a whole day

The requirements for QA, supervision, safety, and the working environment have significantly increased. “We introduced RIB Capture to our subcontractors to provide better oversight and documentation of their QA for on-site work. Although setting up the lists for each company takes time initially, it ultimately frees up resources and reduces administrative work for everyone. For example, we now spend just one hour on registrations that used to take an entire day. Once the registrations are complete, they are synchronized with the site office. All documentation is consolidated with photos, registrations, and marked plans, allowing you to follow all checks at any time. This ensures a well-organized project,” says Mickael Gabriel Andersen.

Value creation in everyday life

“The daily advantage of the use of RIB Project is, amongst others, assurance that changes and updates are distributed to the parties involved and that they are documented on a daily basis. This ensures there is no doubt about which documents are current for the project. However, it also requires a proper overview, methodology, and a knack for documenting the project’s progression. Once familiar with the system, each NCC user can effortlessly manage multiple projects in parallel,” said Ivan Maimann of NCC.

“Many want to go on ‘as usual’…”

“No new addition to procedures comes without challenges,” says Ivan Maimann. “Implementation is difficult because many people prefer to continue with their usual methods rather than familiarize themselves with new tools. While using RIB’s solution at NCC is not mandatory, it is strongly recommended, especially for large projects with many stakeholders, as it offers significant advantages.

RIB Project is set up and tailored to NCC’s needs, but there is always room for improvement. My experience in production has shown me that RIB Project is ideal during the design phase. Additionally, having constant access to all project documents during the production phase is a significant advantage, and managing print distribution through RIB further enhances efficiency.”

“The reduction in the number of printouts is one of the clearest short-term gains. The long-term goal is to generate as much relevant information for a building project as possible in one place.”
