Making the Change

Prior to using CostX we were taking measurements using a scale ruler and hard copy drawings such as 2D plans and elevations. BIM is a hot topic and a key issue in the construction industry, and with the government procuring all construction projects to BIM level 2 by 2016 it was key for our company to be able to become part of a BIM-enabled team and be at the forefront of BIM in our sector. We wanted to work more efficiently and provide robust cost information to our clients. A member of the Exactal team visited our office and provided an informative introduction to CostX. This included measuring from 2D drawings and an introduction to measuring from 3D models.

The Outcome

CostX has allowed the company to work more efficiently by producing more accurate and faster cost estimates and quickly analysing any revisions to drawings. The detailed description and ease of use allows different members of staff to review take-offs and easily identify what has been measured and where. Our office is growing and CostX has helped to facilitate this. We are now actively working as part of a BIM-enabled team on live projects and are seeing quantifiable savings. Exactal have excellent IT support who are easily contactable and have helped us through the implementation period.
