Digital innovation built on experience

The History of RIB SOFTWARE since 1961

Prof. Dr-Ing. Volker Hahn with an employee at that time

Foundation of RIB

Foundation of "Recheninstitut im Bauwesen" RIB by Prof. Dr.-Ing. Volker Hahn, Prof. Dr. Drs. h.c. Fritz Leonhardt and Prof. Dr.-Ing. F.W. Bornscheuer and six other employees. Even at this early stage, bridges can be calculated electronically. With the new IBM 1620 the systematic application of EDP for structural analysis begins.

Innovations in infrastructure solutions and structural design

Development of a program for the calculation of visibility on planned roads. Start of automatic drawing - extension of work to other areas of construction: tunnelling and hydraulic engineering. Digital terrain models are created for the first time. Shortly afterwards, the first finite element program (FEM) in Germany for plates, discs and folding units is applied in the German construction industry.

Already in the 60s - construction times considerably shortened by RIB road construction programs

Introduction of IDEALOG

Introduction of the trend-setting program system IDEALOG for AVA, which establishes itself as market leader in a very short time. RIB later establishes itself in public administration the IDEALOG® modules for AVA and cost estimation are used under a general license for all public construction administrations of the federal and state governments (ISYBAU project).

Successful already in the 80s and 90s

The programs for road construction and civil engineering are combined under STRATIS® and RIBTEC® for structural engineering. RIB develops the complete solution ARRIBA® for tendering, awarding and accounting as well as calculation and construction management under the professional supervision of large German construction groups. The RIB program systems are converted to Windows® technology with a new user-friendly interface.

International expansion

In order to implement new, innovative solutions in short cycles and to successfully implement the new strategy, RIB is continuously strengthening its own development team and establishes an international R&D center in Guangzhou, China, in 2004. At the end of 2009 and 2010, we continued our international expansion and opened 10 new regional offices, three in the USA, two in China and one each in Dubai, India, Singapore, Australia and Hong Kong.

RIB on the road to success with iTWO

In October 2009 we introduced the German version of RIB iTWO. RIB iTWO enables the virtual execution planning and control of projects as well as the simulation of production and maintenance processes. We introduced the English version of RIB iTWO in April 2010, the Chinese version of RIB iTWO with simplified characters in July 2010.
