Luxer Manganye, IT support engineer at RIB Software, highlights the exciting opportunities in this dynamic field, particularly through his impactful work on RIB Software’s proprietary BuildSmart software program.
“The ever-evolving nature of technology within the construction industry captivated me. The continuous innovation offers countless career opportunities and allows for creativity and problem-solving,” says Manganye.
RIB Software’s BuildSmart software provides a single source of truth for construction and engineering companies to enhance their cost advantage. It offers complete financial and commercial control from estimates to project closures. With top-tier data, C-suite and other stakeholders can access live-accrual cost allocations, preserve budgets, and make informed financial decisions.

A day in the life at RIB Software
Manganye says his role at the company is diverse and rewarding, explaining that he spends his days installing BuildSmart software on the servers of several notable clients, while also providing technical support to others and assisting the central office with various IT needs.
“Adding to this, I also work closely with our development, support, and licensing teams to ensure our clients get the best out of our software,” he explains.
Manganye notes that his most exciting project involved adapting BuildSmart to function across multiple browsers, including Google Chrome, Safari, Firefox, and Edge, instead of being limited to Internet Explorer. He says that this was crucial as it allowed the software to operate smoothly across various platforms, particularly after Internet Explorer support ended.
For those looking to follow Manganye’s path, a strong educational background in IT or construction is essential, whether through a short course, B. Tech, or a degree. Key skills include problem-solving, troubleshooting, attention to detail, and proactiveness, while technical aptitudes in software, networks, and Microsoft products are also vital for success.
“To pursue a career in IT and construction, it is imperative to focus on science-based subjects in high school, attend career expos, connect with industry professionals, and participate in field trips to gain a better understanding of the industry.
“These experiences are invaluable in making informed career choices. Pursuing relevant education and training in IT and construction technology is key to building a strong foundation,” concludes Manganye.
