CAD INTEGRATION

in Structural and Civil Engineering

VIRTUAL INTO PHYSICAL:
BIM BECOMES BIM 5D

Building Information Modeling (BIM) generally stands for cost-efficient design and construction processes. But CAD-based BIM models are designed for planning and only support the handling of sub-processes. The worldwide construction industry is united in agreement that BIM should cover the entire process flow: A 5D approach bringing together, alongside 3D geometrical data, all the work specifications required for the execution of the construction, as well as costs and time/process components. The Industry sees the future here: BIM becomes BIM 5D.

MODEL INTEGRATION IN STRUCTURAL ENGINEERING

Model integration in structural engineering is very flexible in iTWO 5D. Here both CPIXML and IFC formats are supported. For Autodesk Revit, in addition, real-time integration is also available.

MODEL INTEGRATION IN STRUCTURAL ENGINEERING

In the infrastructure sector (highway, underground and canal) CPIXML is currently the preferred and most efficient data exchange format.                                                                          [CPI = Construction Process Integration]

RIB

Open 3D model integration

With RIB iTWO BIM-5D, geometric models can be merged in the BIM 5D project database, independent of the trade and from all current 3D CAD programs. Using test functions (3D control), iTWO ensures that construction errors (e.g. missing attributes, overlaps etc.) are already detected before the import of the CAD files.

Coordination of geometric models

In Clash Detection, RIB iTWO 5D detects and notifies of geometrical conflict points in planning. Potential collisions between components, something that often occurs between trades, can be viewed on-screen in advance. The construction process becomes more secure and pre-planning can be significantly optimized. You can import the corrected models and check them again. The check compares the last test run with current results. Only when all construction is in order you can release the plan for execution.

YOU NEED 5D CAD Integration if

  • Your client requires model-based processes (BIM)
  • You want to Collaborate in a model-based way (BIM) with your partners
  • You want to create added value in terms of quality and transparency for your client
  • You have to optimize conventional planning for further execution
  • You are responsible for the project and cost management of a larger-scale project
